Comparison Of Environment Between India And Bhutan Environmental Sciences Essay

parity Of Environment Between India And Bhutan Environmental Sciences EssayThe macrocosm is ch in allenged by many environmental issues. Keeping in mind its pros and cons many countries around the world atomic number 18 adopting distinct methods to combat those issues. With rapidly changing world, it has its own desires to accomplish .Once a peaceful place, now with economic development it has changed a lot. Even inelegant areas behave moved from a stone age to a modern one.The pollution from these modern facilities has eminently degraded the pristine environment and thus contributing signifi screwingtly in global warming. In order to conk out rich over night, the hoi polloi from rural areas do carry out poaching activities much(prenominal) as killing of loco boar, tigers, rein, deer ,bears and other threaten species, thus again degrading the environment due to unbalanced natural lifestyle which directly contributes to areas become barren, water sources getting dried and these factors directly contributes to high investment plan in scrimping both pla assoil earth and human life. With so many economic activities and hatfuls undying desire to pass on riches has moderateed in nearly serious environment c at oncerns. Never the less, as a saying goes necessity is the mother of invention. The economic development activities should take place with belong ecological knowledge. Now with lots of awareness programs on environment conservation being conducted by Royal Government of Bhutan, the citizenry from different districts has geared towards saving the planet earth in their own small ways by doing lots of mitigation works to restore the greenery and go green once again.SOME OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES IN BHUTANSome of the major environmental issues in Bhutan are De forestation as People in Bhutan are aboutly farmers and unlearned who earn their living through artless products. Illegal logging of timberland has been popular and it is also the pa rt of black marketing for those products. In order to make more than room for agricultural works, forests are being felled. Trees are being out for timbers which are sold at double the price. In the wake of these activities, wild life forced to survive in increasingly fragmented spaces around Bhutan. This has lead to loss of biodiversity and degradation of ecological services. Vast areas of forest in Bhutan is destructed for agricultural practices and exploited for products equal wood, timber without planting new growth. This is a serious issue which has to be looked upon in Bhutan (CBD, 2002).Due to deforestation, mainly cutting beyond limits for enkindle extraction has resulted major foretell degradation and soil erosions in Bhutan. It is a man do as well as natural phenomenon .The total area on a lower floor forest is 72.5% of the country and the cultivated area is only 7.8 %( CSO).There has been also case of minor forest fire caused by the people. With the modern agricultu ral practice, people in rural areas has cautiously adopted the method of using excess chemical fertilizers and use of heavy equipments such as power tiller which eventually resulted in set capability to produce agricultural products.Air pollution is defined as undesirable change in physical or biological characteristics of business line, water and land brought about by mans activities that may harmfully affect living organisms and other resources. Air pollution resulted in declined crop output and developed concerns about human beings health. The number of industries are increasing and as a result the GDP has gone up from 0.01% in 1982 to3.2% in1992(MoP 1996).The sources of air pollution are burning of fossils fuels, automobiles, industries like the fertilizer plants, thermal plants, textile industries and steel plants as shown in prognosticate 1. 2.Water pollution is a major problem associated with the developing countries. The major pollutants are the organic matter of the sewe r, metallic substances and other inorganic chemicals from the industries, hot water, oil, inorganic fertilizers and pesticides as shown in figure 1.1.Fig1.1Fig1.2Left Water pollution.Right Air pollution.Waste inclination is an emerging problem in Bhutan especially in urban areas such as in Thimphu, Phuentsholing, Gelephu and Bumthang. In the absence of improperly disposed of vacant land. solely of these are serious health hazard apart from being eyesores. They boost numbers of insects vector like flies. Mosquitoes, scavengers such as stray dogs, pigs and rats which spread flagitious diseases. The wastes can be classified intoA=Biodegradable-The biodegradable wastes are those that can be decomposed. For example, kitchen wastes, animal dung, etc.B=Non-biodegradable-The non-biodegradable wastes are those that cannot be decomposed and remain as such in the environment. For example, plastics, nuclear wastes, glass, etc.Over grazing is one of the main issues in rural areas as raising c attle and other municipal animals have contributed to livelihood of many people. Usually people in rural areas have access to all sorts of facilities but keep animals at the backyard of our homes is very natural. These habits of care animals have resulted in plant material faster than it naturally grows. This had lead permanent loss of plant cover.Poaching has been practiced a long judgment of conviction back during the times of my grandparents and still this modern day such act lives alive. It is a fast way to earn lump sum amount and since most of people in rural areas are uneducated, they do not know the consequences of such practices. So many wild animals have been killed mainly to export their scramble and bones which fetch high prize in the market. Stories of killing endangered species such as tigers, leopards had been recorded. Example people in my village have killed twain bears, a tiger and a wild boar for the reason associated with destruction of their crops and domes tic animals.SOLUTIONS TO COMBAT THOSE ISSUESThe mother earth is so kind. We are gifted with either necessity. For economic growth, different countries set up factories and technology which caused great deal of pollution. The rapidly changing world has many environmental issues to be combated. To do so, some solutions are laid below.People should be showed with the knowledge of converting a bare agricultural space by planting points for their own good. For every one tree they cut, two trees should be planted. Farmers should be taught the right ways to plant trees. Planting trees around homes willing be good for self. Planting trees are healthy activities as it will conserve soil, water and air pollution. It will create conditions more conducive to flora and fauna. Then our country look so beautiful and peaceful with all different kinds of trees ,flowers, wild animals, etc.and it will lead to increase in income or revenue for the economy for the economy as many tourists will visit o ur country. So it should be encouraged in the urban as well as in rural.Control of water pollution is mainly by sewage treatment, effluent treatment and public awareness by not letting them to dump sewage or garbage into the river and air pollution can be controlled by reducing number of factories, industries and vechiles.Air pollution can be controlled by methods depending on the source and the pollutant. Some of the methods used are good quality fuel, vehicles course on alternate sources of energy and using solar cookers or bio gas, planting of trees that remove the pollutinggases and clean the atmosphere and creating public awareness about the effects of air pollution.Soil or land conservation is of the important environmental problems in Bhutan that should be looked upon. People should be discouraged from using chemical fertilizers. Instead they can be inspired to use natural fertilizers. Use of heavy equipments can be also discouraged, so that soil retains its fertility as sh own in figure 1.3and 1.4Fig.1.3Fig.1.4Left Soil conservation.RightSoil erosion.Poaching can be stopped by not demanding poached goods. Local leaders can be pertain with programs that support and conserve animals. Boundaries should be identified to build parks for those animals so, that species are free from man. Local leaders take the initiatives or measures to protect animals that fall under endangered species.Migration from rural to urban areas can be controlled and solved by developing and bringing changes in rural areas. Government should provide better facilities such as health, education, safe drinking water and on top of that by providing job opportunities thus removing poverty, inequality and unemployment. Then people in rural areas will not migrate to urban areas.Waste precaution can be controlled by disposing in right disposal areas and places. It can be controlled by compendium or storing waste and transporting them for recycle. It can be controlled by showing differen t programs like malaria, skin diseases, water borne diseases etc.So that people will aware of those diseases and they will not throw their wastes where ever they like. The main strategy of Nature Conservation Division is to conserve ecosystem but the people and its socio economic development is equally important. People of Bhutan have been interacting with nature for many years and is viewed important to respect their right and aspirations. However for any major development interventation, the effect on biodiversity and protected areas should be cautiously assessed. Therefore all development projects within the protected areas buffers on and biological corridor should be given higher priority for environment impact assessment, as is introduced by National Environmental Conservation.Adaption management is more focus on flexibility of plans to adjust to changing circumstances and insights. It is usually based on circular management process and allows the information about the past and to improve the management in the future .This kind of approach is favorable due to complex ecosystem and their interaction with the people for its uncertainty .The strategic plans of Nature Conservation Division is not fixed rather dynamic to meet the new opportunities and immediate needs, for flexible budgeting and rapid pay out not procedure.Almost all the protected areas in Bhutan are inhibited by people. The NCDs (Nature Conservation Divisions) strategy to pressure the environment is through involvement of different sectors of government and particularly the local anesthetic people .Local knowledge and tradition is very important tool to tackle the forces that destroy the environment.Since the beginning of development planning in the 1960s, Bhutan has placed environmental conservation as the main concern while developing policies for socio-economic development (RGoB, 2002 Wangchuk, 2006). The Forest and Nature Conservation Act of Bhutan 1995 has given more importance in the act ive involvement of rural communities in forestry activities. It brought about major changes in forest management by paving the way for association and private forestry (CF, PF) for the benefit of rural communities. The community forest was established in Bhutan initially to conserve the environment as government realized the importance of local participation in the conservation. (Chhetri, Schmidt Gilmour, 2009). Before the introduction of community forest in Bhutan, people were not bear on and responsible about the forest and the natural resources it provided. As the development taking place rapidly in the country, there was growing pressure on the natural environment because of increase in demand of earthy materials for construction especially wood beside stone, sand and other natural resources. There was support and cooperation from local people and became latter as effective poverty decrease methods. The people at the local level benefited from the ecosystem goods as they coul d not only consume for themselves but also could sell and earn income as a result they realize the importance of preservation of it. Therefore, community forest became popular and spread to all parts of the country. When the forest was a national property, people were not concerned and everybody wanted to extract as much benefit as they could without eco-friendly methods but when the forest was converted into community forest thereby entrusting responsibility and authority to people themselves, people began to know its benefits and started conserving it and now its successfully working in Bhutan. Example Tshaphel community forest in Haa had ever harvested even a single timber from their community forest, in October 2011, they sold 3068.86cft of timber to the sawmill owners in Haa and earned a total sum of Nu.361, 731.43. The 33 households of the village earned a net profit of Nu.116, 796.92(Namgyal, Jan 11 2012).National Environmental Protection of Bhutan was launched in 2007 as env ironment has always been at the center of development concept in Bhutan. As we all know that environmental protection is one of the key pillars of Gross National Happiness. Poaching and hunting was prohibited and now people have minimise poaching and hunting. The forest official should submit their annual report to the department of forest. Illegal cutting of trees is prohibited and therefore charged higher than government penalties.Comparison of environment between India and Bhutan. The total population of Bhutan was 725940.00 in 2010 and 2011(The world bank) where as in India it was estimated 1.21 billion in April 1st, 2011.Due to more population in India the number of vehicles are increasing which lead to more pollution such as air, noise and water pollution and there are more waste compared to Bhutan. In India people are cutting down too many trees in order to establish an industries and factories which lead to deforestation and pollution. As a result they have no fresh water to drink and fresh air to breath. In Bhutan people are more into conservation and protection of the forest. Almost 69.1% of Bhutan is covered with forest (U.N.FAO) where as in India forest coverage is very less.CONCLUSIONToday, with increased in modern facilities has highly degraded the pristine environment. Sea levels have risen, temperature is increasing and we do not get fresh water to drink. Air around are not safe to breath and there are so many issues that has made our mother earth irresistible. Global warming is the biggest concern. We are destroying homes for the animals. It is seen and heard that our mother is very dirty. We cannot be so harsh on our mother earth. We are being so unkind and doing nothing for our future generation. Nothing is impossible Yes we can do it. We can protect and preserve our environment. It is time that we join our hands and combats all the environmental issues such as deforestation, forest fire, global warming, waste management, pollution, over gra zing, poaching, etc.

A Reflective Self Assessment Paper Social Work Essay

A Reflective Self Assessment Paper Social Work EssayAccording to EPAS competencies, a br differently worker should engage in self-reflection, self-monitoring, and correction engage in c atomic proceeds 18er-long learning. When st artistic creationing this self-reflection, I ask myself, which part of social work practice may fascinate my ability in performance. I think maybe, I on the wholeow for try non to deal with cases involving children living with family violence. In 2003, when I was only 16 long time old, I was sent to Portugal for a year as a cultural exchange student. One day, my host m new(prenominal) asked me to pick my 9-year-old host brother theater after school. When I entered his school, a little boy just rushed to me and kicked me saying Chins Chins (Chinese in Portuguese). I melodic theme that I never knew this boy and there was no use to argue with a little boy so I just ignored him. thence while my host brother and I were walking out of the school, the boy a ppe atomic number 18d again and came to beat me saying again Chins Chins. I got really angry and went to the principals office to report the situation. The headmaster told me that the boy was a Brazilian and his family background was quite complicated. He grew up in a climate of family violence and he always performed aggressively at school. After that incident, I started to stool fear and lost trust in this kind of children. tardily during my part-time job in Centre on Behavioral Health of HKU, we are having a pilot study on abused women and children in conformity House. My supervisor asked me to be in charge of the part of children, who are of 5 to 12 years old. Later in the formal study, the sample size provide be much bigger. I found it difficult in designing questionnaires and conducting inter positionings properly for children, especially those who are living with trauma and family violence. We used several authorise questionnaires, but the kids could not understand the qu estions, neither could they comprehend expressions like ache, fear and worries. Moreover, when doing the interview, they would suddenly lose patience in talking with you, thus many questionnaires remained unfinished at all. For those children, reading plentys faces are sometimes a necessity to survive in the family. In order to pretend as normal as other children and to behave as a well-behavedy boy or girl, they tended to give us answers which they thought their peers would possibly say and their parents and we interviewers would prefer to hear. Therefore, I tell myself, in social work practice in the afterlife, I will avoid children if at all possible, particularly children living in domestic violence. When I precipitated to preserve this self- opinion, I reflected and found that my past ideas seemed very immature and they were against social work principles. We believe in the equality of every human-being and we pursuit social justice all the time. But when it comes to the i ssue of children, I have bias against them and directly avoid them.Children who live with family violence are vulnerable and oppressed and we social workers have our uncomplicated mission to pay attention to their needs and empowerment . We social workers respect the dignity and equality of every individual, and we are committed to assist them to solve the occupation and get the needed resources. Social workers also strive to make social institutions responsive to human needs so we should also put efforts on the return key family functioning to meet childrens needs. Therefore, to be a qualified social worker, I should apply these principles and values to guide my professional practice other than personal feel and bias.As we all write out, Family is a special social system which performs certain functions and certain responsibilities. It performs the essential function of attending to the social and educational needs, health and well-being, and mutual care of its members. So par ents have responsibility to meet childrens needs and provide adequate care, affection, caoutchouc, stimulation, guidance, boundaries and stability. Inside the family, parents are significant support systems and attachment figures for childrens socio-emotional development. So when the functions and responsibilities are replaced by verbal, sexual, physical violence and various forms of maltreatment, and when support, care, and handicapony no longer exist, family can be very harmful to a child.According to Harmony Houses statistics, the number of children admitted to their shelter has increased by 60% in the past twenty years, from 155 cases in 1985 to 250 cases in 2005. 100% of them witnessed domestic violence at household and 65% were directly abused by their fathers. Over 96% of child witnesses felt scared, while over 70% felt angry, helpless and did not know how to seek help from external resources. Around 30% of them even tried to fight against their abusive fathers to protect their mothers, causing and long lasting scars throughout their lives. In addition, 85% children having witnessed domestic violence will suffer from mild to severe levels of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptoms.Experiencing or witnessing a violent exit is a very strong stressor to children, especially when it is human designed, long-lasting, and the aggressor and victim are close to them. Children who are abused, neglected and exposure to family violence are more than in all probability to produce problems of emotional and behavioral adjustment, and even PTSD symptoms like withdrawal, regression, aggression, anxiety, helplessness, low self-efficacy, lack of concentration and so on. In Osofskys study, he divided children suffering from domestic violence into three categories by their ages. 1) Very young children are likely to show emotional distress and immature behavior. Sometimes they would also have somatic complaints and regressions in toileting and language. 2) For s chool-aged children, they will probably exhibit a greater frequency of externalizing and internalizing. Externalizing includes aggressive and delinquent, while internalizing consists of withdrawn and anxious. 3) Adolescents may have a high level of aggression but a common acting-out. Moreover, their cases are often accompanied with anxiety, behavior problems, school problems, truancy, and revenge seeking. From the perspective of social learning theory, children will learn and intimate what they experience and see. What can kids learn from domestic violence? 1) Violence is an appropriate way to solve conflicts. 2) Violence is a part of family relationships. 3) The culprit of violence in intimate relationships often goes unpunished. 4) Violence is a way to control other people. So intergenerational transmission of violence often occurred and children are likely to become offenders in the future. . In addition, if parents are emotionally unavailable and abusive, children will lose the basic trust to others in their development. When a childs parents are in a state of hostility, they have to somehow make a choice. Such choice of loyalty to one of the parent inevitably will bring about the impairment of the family communication and relations. Growing up under such stressful conditions with unmet childhood developmental needs will affect their view toward themselves as a person, and their view toward parents, family, marriage and interpersonal relations. When I start to work with a child from family violence, I should keep my role in mind all the time that I am coming to help and try to establish a professional and helpful image in communication with the child and the family. In problem assessment stage, I need to make clear what is known and what is not yet known, and carefully observe what the family environment the parents are providing for the child, what developmental needs of the child are not met and what are the existing problems and difficulties in restore the functioning. In the part of family and parents, it is necessary to assess the family history and functioning, basic care, safety, emotional warmth, housing, employment, income, familys social integration, etc. In the section of childrens developmental needs, there are several dimensions to be considered as followedHealthIt includes a childs physical and mental well-being as well as his/her medical care, nutritious diet and sport custom.EducationIt covers all areas of cognitive development of a child from his/her birth. It involves ones access to school education, books, and other school facilities, interactions with other fellow children, attendance of school activities, and development of skills and interests.Emotional and Behavioral DevelopmentIt concerns how a child can react to people by feelings and actions, which includes attachment, temperament, adaption, self-control and so on.IdentityIt means the childs understanding of him/herself has an independent and valued person, relating to self-efficacy, self-image, self-esteem, sense of belonging to the family and the society.Family and Social RelationshipIt refers to a good relationship with parents, siblings, caregivers, peers and other important people in the childs life.Social PresentationIt means how a child presents him/herself in various social situations and how the presentation fits his/her age, gender, culture and religion.Self-care SkillsIt concerns a childs independence by observe his/her practical, emotional and communication competencies in living and solving problems by him/herself.It should be pointed out that non-verbal cues are very important and useful in assessing the children. The assessment affect can be therapeutic itself, so every action we take should be very careful, otherwise the interview can bring further harm to the child. After collecting the information, together with comprehensive analysis and planning, I can move on to the hinderance stage. The first step is to prevent the maltreatment, and ensure safety and cares for the child. Coping resources like relatives, schools and communities can be searched and used into the practice. Besides, refugee service is another choice. At the same time, proactive work of target services should be provided to the family and the children. For example, if the violence is because of the parents mental health or drug and alcohol abuse, actions like medical and rehab treatment can be adopted to this salient problem. The second level of intervention is to recover the vulnerable children who have suffered from abuse and neglect. The intervention should fit the characteristic of the age and gender of the child and his/her particular situation and needs. Many approaches from expressive art therapy, play therapy and body-mind theory can be applied to help the child identify and change destructive belief patterns, identify and express emotional residue, exercise personal control, make plans for future and break down the sen se of isolation. However, if the trauma is too severe for me to handle, I will refer the child for further clinical treatment. Then comes the third level of the intervention. It aims to ensure the long-term well-being of the child and the family. More target services are followed up to provide a good family environment for the kid. Many integrated therapeutic intervention models can be adopted for the whole family. For example, parent-child interaction therapy suggests that modifying family interactions can diminish the childs behavior problems and improve substantiating parenting skills, and it effectively reduce likelihood of future abusive actions.Above is my plan of practice with children living in family violence. I found that the whole process seemed not that difficult although many practical problems might appear during each stage. I am very energetic but hot-headed. Sometimes when I encounter a hard nut to crack, I will be worried and anxious all the time doing nothing, and thinking about how to avoid it. As a future social worker, I will cultivate my patience, psychological quality in crisis and difficulty, and try to obtain more professional skills to handle problems properly.

Hans Holbein, The Ambassadors Essay -- essays research papers

Hans HolbeinThe Ambassadors&10086IntroductionThe Ambassadors is one of the most complex and arguably portrait which Holbein had painted. The decision of this report is to analyze Han Holbein?fs painting, ?gThe Ambassadors?h. The main task of this report is to uncover the meaning of this painting, as it still remains unclear. Firstly, I will give a unequal introduction about the panther. Then, I will examine the characteristics of the people and the objects in the painting. Lastly, I will attempt to identify the meaning of the painting. &10086About Han HolbeinHans Holbein the younger was a German artist born in Augsburg, Bavaria. He was an outstanding portrait and religious painter and his works ranges from woodcuts, glass paintings, illustrating books, portraits and altarpieces. Hans Holbein was also the appointed court painter to Henry VIII of England in 1536. It is estimated that during the last 10 years of his life, Holbein painted approximately 150 portraits of royalty and no bility and he also designed costumes, silverware and jewellery for the court. Holbein?fs other famous art works include the remarkable woodcuts piece, ?gThe Dance of Death?h and illustrations for Luthers Bible, the ?gMadonna of Burgomaster Meye?h altarpiece. Unfortunately, Holbein died in London in 1543 during a hassle epidemic.&10086The AmbassadorsThis painting was painted at the time that Henry VIII was trying to divorce his first wife Catherine of Aragon so he could marry Anne Bolyne, the second of his six-spot wives.Character Two men in the paintingThe character to the left is jean de Dinteville, aged 29, French ambassador to England in 1533. To the set stands his friend, Georges de Selve, aged 25, Bishop of Lavaur, who acted on several?occasions as ambassador to the Emperor, the Venetian Republic and the Holy See. Dinteville wearing an opulent, fur-lined coat and decorated with the Order of St. Michael, while de Selves clothes are more(prenominal) restrained. The French am bassador Dinteville was on an official visit from France to calm the growing tensions between Henry VIII, King of England, and Pope Clement VII. On the other hand, De Selve tutelage was to represent the interests of the Catholic Church. Two of them are good friends and this painting was painted during Dinteville?fs visit to London. Objects on the Top ShelfThere a... ...how the way Holbein had drew the skull. concord to the experts, it?fs real shape could only be seen by the viewer on a certain angle. I suspect that when the viewer look at it the right angle, the real shape will reveal but the other part of the painting would not visible in the viewer?fs eye. This is very interesting as it might have another deep meaning to the painting. Maybe Holbein was trying to suggest that the two men look at things at a different angle and think differently. If they could think flexibly, they might be able to find a way to persuade Henry VIII . Was Holbein trying to hint Jean de Dinteville and George de Selve to think at a different perspective to complete their mission? The distorted skull might be an indication that if both men ?es intellection are distorted and not on the right track, it will lead to the failure of the mission. Whatever it is I personally think that this painting has a inwardness to it but of all the analysis made by the expert, nobody can be sure of the real meaning of the painting except the artist himself. Nazi Use of Darwinism Essay -- History, Politics, The Treaty of Versa

After the Great War in the nineteenth century, European nations had a voiceless time finding economic stability. My Teaching Philosophy Statement :: Educational Philosophy

My Philosophy on Education As an education major at State College, Ive decided to be serve a teacher for several reasons. As I progressed through elementary, middle, and high school, many of my teachers were great role models for me. This has inspired me to become a role model for individual in the near future. My love for science and math has also influenced my desire to teach and make a difference in a childs life. I want to teach students the subjects that I love so much. I want the feeling that I helped a child accomplish or let on something they couldnt understand. One of the main reasons I want to become an educator is because I feel education has really lost teachers who truly love teaching method and those who truly love teaching and those who have the desire to make a difference. I feel I can really help make a difference in the education world and bring back the love to teach. My placement teachers and the teachers I have had throughout my lif e have definitely influenced my philosophy on education. Although my beliefs concerning education arent set in stone, I believe I have more of an Eclectic view on education. My beliefs tend to come from many of the different philosophies rather than one sole philosophy. One of the philosophical approaches I will take during my educational career is Perennialism. This is the traditional and conservative view, and its pursual consider school to be an institution designed solely to develop students intellect. Perennialists generally follow the beliefs of Aristotle. The perennialist teacher must be a good endorser and writer and encourage students to improve both of these skills. Three primary approaches to learning are stresses didactic teaching of concepts such as, the operations and uses of mathematics coaching of skills and seminars in which various topics are discussed in depth through the Socratic method. Along side of Perennialism, I will use Behaviorism. Th is will allow me to set rules and regulations to bring out prepare my students. This will benefit them because they will always be aware of circumstances of their behavior.
